Back to School for 2018! (kind of…)

Back to School for 2018! (kind of…)

“Outtakes”. A snippet of thoughts to kick off this blog post:
We tried to get "back to school" this week but the weather had different plans for all of us!

What I am looking forward to putting into practice, or continuing:
A regular routine/schedule (work, sleep, exercise, food)

Quote(s) that resonated with me this week:
Take care of the things in life that you can control, and don't sweat the things in life that you can not control (like the weather)...

As we returned from the winter break, we were welcomed back this week with a good old fashioned Nor’easter. Tuesday was back to work, business as usual. It was great to see the students, hear about their break/trips, and catch up with colleagues. Wednesday was a normal school day with the exception of the “snow hype” that grew throughout the day. The predictions quickly went from 2”-4” to us getting walloped with a “bomb cyclone” or “bombogenesis”. School was closed on Thursday and Friday and we hope to get back to a more normal schedule on Monday… A big shout-out to the amazing facilities and maintenance staff who weathered the storm and got the NCPS buildings back in shape while schools were not in session. They are an amazing, dedicated group.

The blog this week was going to be a reflection on a “Brainstorm Experience” event that I was going to attend last evening, but was canceled due to the weather (not surprisingly). The event has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 1st, so you will hear more about it then. Steve Gross from the Life is Good foundation was scheduled to speak about brain health and how joy and optimism ignite the best in all of us. I attended a session that he spoke at last March and he is an amazing, engaging presenter.  The event is hosted by The Avielle Foundation (“Preventing Violence & Building Compassion”) out of Newtown. If you are interested in checking out the details, please feel free to do so, here.

I hope everyone's 2018 is off to a great start! See you next week...
